Adewale breaks ICAN record to become the youngest chartered accountant

Education
Seventeen-year-old Jonathan Adewale has broken the records of the Institute of the Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) by emerging as the youngest chartered accountant.

Adewale’s feat was at the 69th induction ceremony for new members in Lagos on Wednesday.

His citation at the event was greeted with a standing ovation.

However, Adewale has to wait for another four years before he can be inducted as a member of ICAN.

The Act setting up ICAN states that members have to be  21 years or above before they can be a fellow.

A total of 1277  chartered accountants were inducted today.

The teenager who hails from Ibadan said his motivation was his dad who failed ICAN exam repeatedly before he finally became chartered.

Meanwhile, the governing board of ICAN has approved a full scholarship for  Adewale’s tertiary education when he gets admission.

Adewale had passed the final stage of the ICAN examination earlier in the year.
