Over 450 ex- councilors, that served between October 2014 and October 2017, are set for a showdown with the Delta State Government over unpaid severances.
The councilors, who were elected on the platform of People’s Democratic Party (PDP), said they had deployed every peaceful means for their severance package to be paid but the state government had rebuffed them.
Spokesman of the group who pleaded anonymity, said they (councillors) had in several letters notified the state governor, SSG, Auditor-General (local government), Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON), Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs and other concerned authorities on the need for the payment of their severance package.
The former leaders said that Chairmen, Vice Chairmen and Supervisors of local councils across the 25 LGA’s under whom they served, have been paid in full.
They said , “we have harnessed all possible avenues to ensure that the state government led by our own party men pay us our severance in full had failed. We have no option than to tell the world of how we are being marginalized by our own party leaders.
“Official letters of the protest signed by 25 former Councilors, representing the 25 local government areas have been sent to security agencies and concerned authorities of our proposed protest which will be carried out soon.
“If they fail to listen to us after the protest, we will proceed to Ministry of Finance and other relevant agencies in Abuja to ensure that our severances are paid. Enough of the injustices against us by our own party”.
