Edo faces meat scarcity as butchers’ crisis deepens

Many families in Edo State may not have meat during the yuletide. The reason is that butchers who slaughter cows, sheep and goats for sale to members of the public are at loggerheads.

Some butchers who have formed a state union insist others must join them. But many of the butchers said it is illegal.

The crisis among the butchers which has been brewing over the years took a dramatic turn this week and degenerated to a shooting spree at an abbatoir in Benin City.
