Napoli’s Victor Osimhen reveals Chelsea legend Didier Drogba was his childhood hero

2019 Napoli striker Victor Osimhen has lavished praise on Chelsea legend Didier Drogba.

Osimhen, who also turns out for the Nigerian national team, is a sought-after striker at the moment.

The lanky forward has been on the radar of top European clubs like Arsenal and Bayern Munich, who are actively looking for strikers in the upcoming transfer window.

Osimhen was bought from Lille in 2019 for a fee of around 70 million euros. He has been instrumental in Napoli’s push for the Serie A title before eventually falling off the pace and finishing third behind the Milan giants.

In an interview with the Nigerian Football Federation, Osimhen said that he looked up to Drogba while growing up. The Ivorian made a name for himself as one of the greatest African players ever during his stint at Chelsea.

Osimhen who is now 23 years old, also recounted how scoring against Chelsea in the Champions League was his favourite goal.

He netted against the English giants in October of 2019. My childhood idol is Didier Drogba. The goal moment I cherished was when I scored against Chelsea.

The feeling was special because I know a lot of my friends that are Chelsea fans, and before the game, they texted me that they don’t care if Chelsea wins, as long as I scored.

They wanted me to actualise my dream and that’s one of the best moments in my career.
