NPFL qualification: Gov. Diri redeems N10m promise to Bayelsa United


Gôvernor Duoye Diri of Bayelsa has redeemed his N10 million pleged to Bayelsa United.

The governor  hosted the management and players of Bayelsa United Football Club to a dinner at the Golden Tulip, Onopa in Yenagoa

Diri who congratulated the team, said, ” I like to join all Bayelsans to congratulate you, and welcome you to the elite division of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).

”In appreciation of all that you have also put in, the N10 million naira I promised you is here cash.

” I like to say that this is the time for you to also take stock, and I’m sure that you will go back to the drawing board and think of how you will conquer Nigeria in the next football season.

”Sports is a veritable tool for youth development, and we all know that football is like the king of sports.

”This is the beginning of a new dawn in your football, and we want to signpost you to win the Nigerian Professional Football League, so that you will represent this country on the African continent.

”Now, you are in the elite division, and to whom much is given, much is expected.

”Everything that will motivate you was given, and you reciprocated by making the people and government of Bayelsa State happy by gaining promotion to the elite division.

”Let me also appreciate all Bayelsans for their support for our darling club, because when they heard the team was back in the premier league, everyone was so happy.”

The event  was attended by the Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, Hon. (Dr.) Fred Agbedi and Hon. Fred Obua both of the National Assembly, Hon. Timi Agala-Omubo, member of the House Committee on Sports, Dr. Azibuapu Eruani, President of Azikel Groups of company and other top government functionaries.
