Wife of Delta Governor urges inmates to hold unto God

News

The Wife of the Delta Governor, Dame Edith Okowa, has charged inmates to  hold on to God for their freedom.

Dame Okowa who visited Ogwashi-Uku Correctional center, in Aniocha South local government, on Wednesday as part of the activities to mark her 61 birthday anniversary, noted that even if the inmates were found guilty as charged, God’s mercy could still locate them.

She urged them to genuinely surrender their lives to God and trust him to make  meaning out of their lives.

The governor’s wife affirmed that it had become a tradition for her  to celebrate Jesus with the inmates of the five correctional centers in the state to give them a sense of belonging and hope of freedom to live normal life again.

Also speaking at the occasion, the State Commandant of the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency, Mr Tunde George sensitized the inmates on the need to avoid drug abuse which he said was capable of truncating their lives.

He called on parents to monitor the association their children keep, adding that children left to themselves often cause disgrace to the family.

In a brief sermon she  titled: ”Ungodly Association that Hinders God’s glory”, one of the focal persons of the ”05 Initiative”, Lady Chineze Onyia-Odike stressed that every human being was created to manifest God’s glory which the devil fights to destroy.

She advised  the inmates to remain steadfast in God who alone could deliver them.

On his part, the State Commandant of the Ogwashi-Uku Correctional centre, Mr Sunday Oyakire and a representative of the inmates appreciated the governor’s wife for reaching out to them on the  occasion of her birthday.

The birthday celebration featured  prayers and praise worship led by the inmates as Dame Okowa flanked by her entourage danced with them.

Representatives of the governor’s wife also visited Warri, Agbor, Kwale and Sepele prisons celebrating the day with the  inmates simultaneously.

Earlier, Dame Okowa was also at the state government house Chapel, Asaba to thank God for another 365 days before receiving a  surprise birthday get together by the children, where close associates and staff of her office celebrated her.
