Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, has in Port Harcourt, urged Nigerians to be more careful in their choice of who to entrust with the responsibility of governing them, as he accused Federal Government of setting the country 20 years backward.

Governor Wike made the assertion, at the recent inauguration of the Rivers State Government Safe Home performed by the Akwa Ibom State Governor, Udom Emmanuel, in Borikiri, Port Harcourt.

Wike, in a statement signed by his media aide, Kelvin Ebiri, stressed that his is because the APC-led Federal Government has set Nigeria reversed all progressed made by the country in 2001 back in just six years.

The governor said: “While the other people (APC) are busy fighting themselves about direct primaries and indirect primaries, we of the PDP are busy delivering dividends of democracy. You can see that the difference is clear.

“Your Excellency, I’m happy you’re the one who has come because you’ve invited me severally to Akwa Ibom State to commission projects. I’m happy and I want to say to everybody that PDP governors are doing very, very well.”

“So, we must be careful in dealing with those who are not serious. A party that is not serious, that has set our country 20 years back. We must be very careful.”

On his verifiable social media handle, Wike further expressed his gratitude thus. ”I thank our special guest, His Excellency Udom Emmanuel who today commissioned the Rivers State Government Safe Home, Borokiri, Port Harcourt.

“The Safe Home is a one-stop facility that provides victims of domestic, sexual, gender, child or other forms of violence with access to shelter, legal aid, counseling, medical reference and after-care to prepare them for reintegration into the society.

“It is a holistic approach to providing the much needed support for the Rivers State Child Rights Law 2009 and the Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Law 2020. It will not only provide our citizens protective custody but would also afford them a good opportunity at getting Justice.

“The Safe Home complex has an administrative building, a Magistrate Court room, a high Court room, living accommodation, a creche, a counseling unit, a probation unit, a library, a family friendly witness room and offices for service providers like FIDA, MWAN, NAPTIP.

“Beyond building roads and other infrastructure, our administration is committed to building a robust administrative and institutional framework to protect the vulnerable in our population from violence”, he said.
